Recommended dosage for Mebendazole and Albendazole

Animal: Dog
Breed: Pomeranian

Pet Symptoms:  I live in Uganda and have recently imported my pomeranian from England. My little boy is 4.8kg! I used to de worm him with Milbemax in the UK but thats not available here in Uganda. There is only Albendazole! I asked a couple of vets about the dosage but they are all contradicting eachother! One told me to give him 5ml of Albendazole syrup and the other one told me to give him 2 tablets of mebendazole tablets for two days! Uganda has a very bad reputation for over dosing pets. I was a victim, the vet overdosed my little maltese just last year and he died:( I am really cautious now and need to research.

He is overdue for his de-worming treatment and is showing signs of worms.. puking this morning and watery stool

Our Advice: This is not what I would normally use for a dog. Albendazole and Mebendazole are products usually used in farm animals Cattle and sheep. There is no registered product with this active substances for dogs in the UK. Recommended dose in dogs for Albendazole is 25 – 50 mg/kg orally twice daily for 2 – 5 days. The dose for Mebendazole is  9-11 mg/pound in food daily for 3-5 consecutive days depending on the parasite being treated. I have never use this products for dogs and cats but this are the recommended dosages.
