Reaction to anesthetic

From: Emma with dog Doug
Breed: Springer

Pet Symptoms:
We have two dogs, lab x springer (bitch) and a springer (dog). Last summer the lab x had an allergic reaction to anaethesia and took 10 minutes to bring back round. Now we are looking to get our Spinger neutered as we cannot neuter the bitch now due to allergic reaction but are hugely concerned about the anaesthetic. Do you know if there are any alternatives? Thank you for any advice you can give.

Our Advice:
Unfortunately this is the only way is to castrate him. Just because the bitch had a reaction does not mean he will have one as well. They are very rare. If he has a blood test before the anaesthetic and fluids during the procedure it is usually safe.
