Nail cutting

From Michael with dogs Lily and Xena
Breed: Rottweiler

Pet Symptoms:

I am just wondering if Johnsons veterinary antibacterial powder is the same as styptic powder? as my local pet shop said it was the same but i just want to be 100% in case of any accidents while cutting my girls nails? thanks.

Kwik stop is the only other brand i have tried.

Our Advice:

Thank you for your email. A silver nitrate pencil (caustic pencil) is the best thing to use to stop any bleeding from catching the quick when cutting your dogs nails. If there is a lot of bleeding or your dog goes lame afterwards it would be sensible to take them to your vet to be checked over.
