Dog Mites and Breeding

Animal: Dog
Breed: Aussie bulldog

Pet Symptoms: Hi my dog had mites at the age of 8 months old he was treated for it by injections once a week for the period of 6 weeks it was only the size of a 50c piece and hasn’t had any trouble with it since then he is now 20 months old and in great condition, so my question is can I still breed him?

Our Advice: Mites wouldn’t affect a dog’s ability to breed.  They aren’t passed on genetically, but if the bitch still had mites she could pass them to puppies once they are born.  The only way to check for them is if the bitch is showing signs of mites, or by doing skin scrapes with a vet and looking under a microscope to check for mites.
